Here at True North Puppies we feel that we can provide you with the most adorable and healthiest addition to you family due to our genetics, training, and temperament of our pawrents.  All of our pawrents are AKC registered which means that they are 100% purebred with no other genetics.  They are also genetically tested for over 200 genetic traits and diseases so we can give our puppies the best possible chance at a healthy life!  We want to keep the standards of the F1 hybrids at its best and provide the best bloodlines for our puppies to have a healthy puppyhood. All our Cavapoo puppies will be examined nosed to tail by our licensed veterinarian before they go to their furever home.  Also, they will be completely up to date on all vaccinations. They come with an acclimation blanket with the scent of mom and siblings, a copy of their healthy guarantee, as well as a bag of the puppy food they are accustom to.

We carefully hand-picked each of our pawrents for their genetics, coat, and temperaments.  We have raised them all from puppies themselves and spend time working with them each day. We feel it is important to have healthy and happy parents so we have healthy and happy puppies.  Genetics are very important but we also believe that training our puppies is equally important. Well-trained and cared for dogs bring such joy to a home! It has been proven in studies that performance in animal competition is 35% heritable and 65% attributable to outside influences such as management, nutrition, and training.  

 

To focus on training our adorable puppies, we begin using the Super Dog Program when they are just three days old.  This program was developed by the US Military in their own canine program to give their dogs a superior advantage when performing. Based on years of research, the military learned that early neurological stimulation exercises could have important and lasting effects. Their studies confirmed that there are specific time periods early in life when neurological stimulation has optimum results. The first period involves a window of time that begins at the third day of life and lasts until the sixteenth day. It is believed that because this interval of time is a period of rapid neurological growth and development, and therefore is of great importance to the individual.

The "Bio Sensor" program was also concerned with early neurological stimulation in order to give the dog a superior advantage. Its development utilized six exercises which were designed to stimulate the neurological system. Each workout involved handling puppies once each day. The workouts required handling them one at a time while performing a series of five exercises. Listed in order of preference, the handler starts with one pup and stimulates it using each of the five exercises. The handler completes the series from beginning to end before starting with the next pup. The handling of each pup once per day involves the following exercises:

1. Tactile stimulation - holding the pup in one hand, the handler gently stimulates (tickles) the pup between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip. It is not necessary to see that the pup is feeling the tickle. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds.  

1. Head held erect - using both hands, the pup is held perpendicular to the ground, (straight up), so that its head is directly above its tail. This is an upwards position. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds. 

1. Head pointed down - holding the pup firmly with both hands the head is reversed and is pointed downward so that it is pointing towards the ground. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds. 

1. Supine position - hold the pup so that its back is resting in the palm of both hands with its muzzle facing the ceiling. The pup while on its back is allowed to sleep. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.  

1. Thermal stimulation—use a damp towel that has been cooled in a refrigerator for at least five minutes. Place the pup on the towel, feet down. Do not restrain it from moving. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.

 The next stage of puppyhood is socialization and this occurs between 4-16 weeks of age.  If a puppy does not get proper socialization, it can become distant, aloof and not willing to please its owners.  Here at True North Puppies we start socializing our puppies at four weeks old with children, adults, and other dogs as it is our feeling that early training gives us the best outcomes. In addition, we do not wean our puppies until they have reached eight weeks old as this time spent with their mother is invaluable to a more socialized pup. A dog that is well socialized at a young age is easier to train as they want to please their family.  As they grow, we acclimate them to usual household sounds such as a washer/dryer and vacuum. They also spend a lot of time with our family and friends.  Another way we get our puppies accustom to people and handling is puppy massage. We work on beginning potty training as well as crate training during this stage.  We also teach them independent play for those times when you are not available to play with them. Our puppies get a lot of love and attention so they are ready to receive your love and attention! 

 

The third stage of puppy development is called enrichment.  There is no time limit to this stage as it is all the positive experiences your puppy receives over its like. Since they are highly intelligent, they are very trainable when it comes to potty training and commands and are ready to please!  As a Cavapoo’s poodle pawrent does not shed, Cavapoos have low shedding coats and less dander and allergy-inducing saliva compared to most dogs, making them a better match for those with allergy sensitivities.  This lack of dander also keeps them from having a “doggy smell”!  A Cavapoos coat can be wavy or curly and are very soft and silky.  Cavapoos are on the smaller side and can weigh from 12-18 pounds and be 12-14 inches tall.  The average lifespan of a Cavapoo is approximately 12-16 years ensuring that your puppy will be a wonderful part of your family for many years to come.
